Today's business environment includes a lot of buzz about unions, and the news media continues to communicate about "sweetheart deals" unions have negotiated that businesses are struggling to pay. In fact, more than 20 cities across the U.S. have declared bankruptcy because of this exact reason.
Although the overall union membership is lower today - one thing is for certain - businesses of all sizes must be aware that unionization of a workforce can be devastating to business growth. And, unions are beginning to target smaller employers.
Why? Often, union organizing takes place because employees are frustrated with their current management and feel as though they are entitled to better pay, benefits, retirement, and more respectful treatment by the management team. Representatives from labor unions often are very good listeners…they listen to employee complaints and offer a solution: join a union! Then, the union becomes "the middleman" to do all the negotiating on behalf of the employees.
Whenever unionizing takes place and that "middleman" begins to negotiate for workers' pay, benefits, seniority rights, etc. the process can be very painful to an employer both emotionally and financially.
In this informative audio conference, you will learn from an HR Leader who managed Teamsters and U.A.W. employees for many years and understands, first hand, the need for implementing good union avoidance strategies.
This is a must-attend conference if you are a small to medium-size employer and have a larger population of non-exempt, hourly workers. This conference will arm you with knowledge and strategies to improve your relationship with your workers and minimize the risk of unionization. Learning Objectives:- Identifying the key organizational factors that are magnets for labor unions
- How to develop union avoidance strategies
- What to do if you spot unionizing activities
