Paid Time Off in California: Strategies for Effectively and Legally Managing Your Program
|Date / Time:
More and more often, employers are opting to replace their sick and vacation leave banks with paid time off (PTO) banks. There are plenty of upsides - employers generally find PTO policies easier to administer, employees are more satisfied, and they tend to take fewer unplanned leaves of absence. But is it really that simple?
Well, it can be - if your PTO policy is designed and implemented correctly. In addition to giving employees paid time off for things like voting, illness, vacation, and personal time, there are other factors you must consider, such as wage and hour laws, and state and federal leave and disability laws.
In California, questions may arise about how to accurately deduct PTO when an employee exercises her right to take protected leave under FMLA, the CFRA, or the state's pregnancy disability leave (PDL) law.
While employees appreciate the flexibility of a PTO plan, for you as an HR professional, the administration aspect can get tricky, particularly in California, where you need to worry about the state's complicated and employee-friendly wage and hour laws and leave rules. Don't get tripped up. Instead, join us for an in-depth webinar covering everything you need to know about administering a PTO program in California.
