Title:

Electronic Recordkeeping In California: Best Practices For E-Document Creation, Storage, Retention, And Destruction

SKU:WC-1022872
Date / Time: Recorded
Format: Webinar
Description:

The widespread use of electronic records presents a real threat to HR. It’s all too easy to accidentally share confidential, or even highly personal, information about the company or employees that should not have gotten out. That’s even more possible with bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies.

It’s critical that HR professionals know exactly what can be shared, what absolutely must not be shared, and what they must do to protect all information.

When the lines become blurred as a result of BYOD, employers rightfully have questions about how to effectively and compliantly manage electronic communications, including emails. Just because your employees may allow certain risk-taking with sharing online doesn’t mean your organization should risk being compromised.

Join us for an in-depth webinar when attorney Usama Kahf, will examine the latest strategies for ensuring that your electronic recordkeeping practices are compliant in California. You will discover everything there is to know about e-document management and what you must do if federal or state agencies, including California’s Division of Labor Standards Enforcement or Department of Fair Employment and Housing, come knocking.

Learning Objectives

  • The legal, practical, and logistical aspects of electronic employment records management in California
  • The documents and records you must keep on file, and for how long, particularly here in California
  • Why keeping everything is almost as dangerous as keeping nothing at all
  • How to make the transition from paper to electronic files
  • What exactly constitutes a e-record, including examples of digital data such as computer log-on/off times, Outlook calendars, notes and to-do lists, emails, and more
  • Techniques for assessing your data environment
  • How to determine if your existing document creation, storage, retention, and destruction policies are up to date
  • When and how to destroy electronic documents
  • When your legal duty to preserve records is triggered
  • Technology you should be prepared to sift through when the preservation duty arises
  • And much more!

Cannot Attend The Live Presentation?

This presentation is also available in a recorded format, in On-Demand version, as shown in the pricing options below.

About Webcasts / Audio Conferences / Podcasts:

Webcasts, audio conferences, and podcasts are presentations that you attend via the Internet, phone, or mobile device at a specified date and time for "live" versions, or at your convenience for "recorded" and "On-Demand" versions.

The live versions are interactive, meaning that participants can ask questions in real time, plus are a very cost-effective form of training because 1) you receive fast, convenient learning without any out-of-office time; 2) you can invite as many colleagues as you'd like to listen in on a single phone line; 3) you incur no travel expenses; and 4) you and your colleagues are back at work immediately after the session ends!

And though with recorded versions you do lose the ability to ask questions, you gain the ability to hear the presentation numerous times and to share it with others in your office.

Handout materials and the phone number for live presentations are made available to you prior to the event via email from the presenter and from the "MyAccount" link on the menu bar. Copies of the presentations are included with recorded versions.
