Too often we hear about cases of workplace violence that result in the deaths of innocent employees. Since 2010, the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) has reported an average of 551 deaths per year due to workplace homicides.

Workplace violence, whether the result of an active shooter who chooses a target at random, a disgruntled employee seeking revenge, a domestic violence abuser, or other violent offender, can happen anywhere at any time. And while no industry nor workplace is immune to this potentially devastating threat, there are several steps organizations can take to ensure that they are aware of the particular risks their facilities and workers face. From there, safety and HR managers can develop a proactive plan for minimizing threats of violence on their workplaces.

Join us when Michael Miele, who’s responsible for implementing enhanced security protection programs for Eaton Corp.’s Northeast region, will present a workplace vulnerability assessment and introduce key factors to identify potentially violent behavior. Mike Miele has direct responsibility for implementing enhanced security protection programs for the 20 Eaton Corporation sites he oversees in the North East region of the United States. He has been the chairman of his town’s Emergency Management Advisory Council where he helped form a local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and participated in the last 2 years of statewide table top drills in addition to managing the town’s emergency operations center (EOC). He also has actively participated in running table top drills for active shooter preparation at Sikorsky Aircraft, as well as developing a continuity of operations plan for Sikorsky’s embedded customer (U.S. Department of Defense).

Mr. Miele has an associate’s degree in electrical engineering technology from Waterbury State Technical College, a bachelor’s degree in general studies from the University of Connecticut, a master’s degree from RPI in management and a second masters in professional studies from the University of Connecticut in Homeland Security Leadership.
