California Workplace Investigations From Complaint To Closure: A Step-By-Step Guide For HR
|Date / Time:
HR is legally required to thoroughly investigate every complaint of unlawful conduct that crosses your desk, whether it’s serious or laughable.
And while you need to investigate in a timely manner, you run the risk of cutting some key corners if you act too quickly. At the same time, you want to limit the liability of keeping the guilty party on your payroll.
The secret to conducting a successful inquiry is to get your complete investigation plan in place before the complaint ever hits your desk—because as you well know, in HR it’s never a question of if, but when.
Join us to get up to speed on how to conduct efficient, effective, legally compliant workplace investigations here in California. Attorney Miranda Watkins will walk you through regulations specific to the state and offer practical strategies for navigating this tricky process.
About Your Presenter:
- What to do first when an employee comes to you with a complaint or allegation
- How to handle those common requests for “complete confidentiality” and “I don’t want you to do anything about this, but…”
- What you should and shouldn’t do before the investigation is concluded
- How to separate a complainant and the alleged wrongdoer without inviting retaliation claims (from either side)
- Interviewing tips to help you get to the truth
- Strategies for resolving those “he said, she said” situations
- When you should consider bringing in an outside investigator
- What to do after the investigation is over
- And much more!

|About Webcasts / Audio Conferences / Podcasts:|
Webcasts, audio conferences, and podcasts are presentations that you
attend via the Internet, phone, or mobile device at a specified date and time for "live" versions, or at your convenience for "recorded" and "On-Demand" versions.
versions are interactive, meaning that participants can ask questions in real time, plus are a very cost-effective form of training because 1) you receive fast, convenient learning without
any out-of-office time; 2) you can invite as many colleagues as you'd like to listen in on a single phone line; 3) you incur no travel expenses; and 4) you and your colleagues are back
at work immediately after the session ends!
And though with recorded versions you do lose the ability to ask questions, you gain the ability to hear the presentation numerous
times and to share it with others in your office.
Handout materials and the phone number for live presentations are made available to you prior to the event via email from the
presenter and from the "MyAccount" link on the menu bar. Copies of the presentations are included with recorded versions.
