Description:

Over 2,000 workers annually are admitted to hospitals for burns from arc flash incidents. Given the serious risks arc flash hazards present, and the fact that OSHA encourages its inspectors to use NFPA 70E as a reference when inspecting for arc flash hazards and personal protective equipment (PPE), it’s critical for companies to understand how to implement and maintain compliance with NFPA 70E.

NFPA 70E outlines specific requirements designed to protect employees and personnel by reducing exposure to major electrical hazards, while complying with OSHA’s electrical safety standards. These requirements help organizations avoid workplace injuries and fatalities due to shock, electrocution, arc blast and arc flash hazards.

Meeting these requirements has proved challenging for many organizations, though. That’s because, in 2015, NFPA made copious changes in follow up to the 2012 edition of 70E®, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace concerning arc-rated clothing, electrical safety, energized electrical work permit, DC voltage systems, arc flash labeling, selecting protective clothing, other PPE, and more.

Join us to learn how to develop and implement a comprehensive NFPA 70E compliance program that includes the 2015 revisions and provides strategies to ensure that your existing program is up to date with these substantial requirements. Plus, get your specific concerns addressed during a live Q&A with presenter and safety expert Mark Haskins, CSP.

Learning Objectives:

  • Recommended strategies for complying with NFPA 70E®, and why taking a close look at your basic assessments on personal protective equipment, lockout tagout, and other areas could save you a lot of time and energy
  • How to avoid workplace safety violations, injuries, and fatalities related to arc flash hazards
  • How NFPA 70E 2015 relates to OSHA regulations, and how it can help you develop an integrated electrical safety program
  • Methods for determining what personal protective equipment is necessary
  • How power plants may be affected by the NFPA 70E® standard
