Description:

When an employee is abusing drugs or alcohol, it presents clear and present dangers for employers. Drug and alcohol use could lead to lost work days and distraction that impacts overall job performance and the safety of that employee and their coworkers.

Safety and HR managers must address these problems head on by developing and managing a comprehensive workplace substance abuse prevention policy. The policy and resultant program will require a lot of coordination including supervisory training, employee education and assistance, and drug and alcohol testing that meets compliance requirements under OSHA. Additionally, you must consider how the Americans with Disabilities Act impacts policy development.

Creating an effective program is often easier said than done. As with most workplace and safety compliance initiatives, the devil is in the details. It’s important to ensure that you’re well prepared for how you’ll address common drug-testing related issues that arise in real-life workplaces.

Join us for an in-depth webinar on how to develop and implement an effective workplace substance abuse prevention and drug and alcohol testing program to improve overall safety and preserve your legal defenses under federal law.

You’ll learn:

  • 5 essential components to include in your workplace substance abuse prevention and drug and alcohol testing policy/program
  • Best practices for writing a comprehensive drug and alcohol policy
  • How to ensure the consistent application of the drug/alcohol testing component so you comply with federal law and ensure that your actions are legally defensible
  • Various scenarios when drug and alcohol testing should be considered
  • Tips for communicating with employees and supervisors about substance abuse prevention training
  • Drug and alcohol testing liability concerns to be prepared to address
  • The types of federal laws and regulations you must consider as you develop your program
  • How recent changes in medical and recreational marijuana laws and related legal decisions impact drug and alcohol testing programs

About Webcasts / Audio Conferences / Podcasts:

Webcasts, audio conferences, and podcasts are presentations that you attend via the Internet, phone, or mobile device at a specified date and time for "live" versions, or at your convenience for "recorded" and "On-Demand" versions.

The live versions are interactive, meaning that participants can ask questions in real time, plus are a very cost-effective form of training because 1) you receive fast, convenient learning without any out-of-office time; 2) you can invite as many colleagues as you'd like to listen in on a single phone line; 3) you incur no travel expenses; and 4) you and your colleagues are back at work immediately after the session ends!

And though with recorded versions you do lose the ability to ask questions, you gain the ability to hear the presentation numerous times and to share it with others in your office.

Handout materials and the phone number for live presentations are made available to you prior to the event via email from the presenter and from the "MyAccount" link on the menu bar. Copies of the presentations are included with recorded versions.
