Doing Business In Mexico: The Latest Labor And Employment Law Updates

SKU:WC-1025086
Date / Time: Recorded
Format: Webinar
Description:

Many U.S. employers have cut labor costs or diversified their companies by hiring employees in Mexico. However, doing business there isn’t as simple as it sounds. Mexico has employee friendly labor laws, and there is no “at will” employment. Labor unions, therefore, retain a firm grasp on workplace operations.

While Mexico may be our neighbor to the south, the country’s employment laws differ greatly from those in the U.S. in many key areas, including disability claims and overtime hours.

With President Trump’s focus on big immigration and trade-related changes to our relationship with Mexico, it’s vital that any companies with current or planned future business there get up to speed ASAP.

Join us for an in-depth webinar that will address the major do’s and don’ts of hiring, supervising, and terminating employees in worker-friendly Mexico.

You’ll learn:

  • How Mexico’s complex employment laws apply to U.S. employers
  • What you need to do to hire workers in Mexico—and important language you must have in your employment agreements
  • What the Trump administration has already changed, what it’s likely to do in the future, and what that means for you
  • Tips for learning Mexico’s work schedules, salary rules and overtime regulations - and how they differ from those in the United States
  • Strategies for handling Mexico’s extremely employee-friendly rules for benefits, covering everything from medical coverage to days off
  • Why a collective bargaining agreement is a must-have with your Mexico-based workers—and how not to get trampled by the unions in the process
  • How to discipline, suspend, and terminate employees, while also staying out of legal hot water
  • How to work effectively with outsourcing providers in Mexico
  • A checklist of things you must do before you relocate U.S.-based employees to Mexico
  • The biggest mistakes your fellow U.S.-based businesses have made when doing business in Mexico - and how you can avoid them
  • And much more!

About Webcasts / Audio Conferences / Podcasts:

Webcasts, audio conferences, and podcasts are presentations that you attend via the Internet, phone, or mobile device at a specified date and time for "live" versions, or at your convenience for "recorded" and "On-Demand" versions.

The live versions are interactive, meaning that participants can ask questions in real time, plus are a very cost-effective form of training because 1) you receive fast, convenient learning without any out-of-office time; 2) you can invite as many colleagues as you'd like to listen in on a single phone line; 3) you incur no travel expenses; and 4) you and your colleagues are back at work immediately after the session ends!

And though with recorded versions you do lose the ability to ask questions, you gain the ability to hear the presentation numerous times and to share it with others in your office.

Handout materials and the phone number for live presentations are made available to you prior to the event via email from the presenter and from the "MyAccount" link on the menu bar. Copies of the presentations are included with recorded versions.
