HR's Roadmap For Workplace Depression: Legal And Practical Strategies For Improving Employee Mental Health
Employees are working harder than ever, face multiple demands, and can have trouble balancing their personal and professional lives. Personal issues don’t leave employees in the parking lot, and work issues may follow them home. Symptoms of employee depression include a lack of interest, being late or frequently absent from work, abusing drugs or alcohol, bouts of exhaustion, and decreased productivity.
Untreated depression costs employers over $51 billion in absenteeism and lost productivity. It's especially troubling for HR because depression often affects workers during their “prime” work years.
So it’s critical that you proactively evaluate and address how depression affects your employees. But how?
As a technology leader, EMC Corporation is proud of its innovative products and services. Yet the company is also aware of the stressors caused by a 24/7, ‘always on’ workplace. That's why it invests in helping its 48,000 employees become aware of all aspects of their health — both physical and behavioral — and the connections between the two. The company maintains a culture of health that removes the stigmas associated with depression and fosters employees’ abilities to cope with what otherwise could become a debilitating mental health condition.
Join us when the Director of Benefits at EMC will describe the company's programs and ongoing efforts to alleviate/treat depression. A skilled labor and employment attorney co-leads this event, covering important ADA and FMLA-related compliance challenges relevant to managing depression in the workplace.
Successful, strategically-minded HR and benefits professionals, like those at EMC, exert enormous influence on workplace productivity, morale, and overall employee satisfaction. We'll show you how to view depression as something to treat and solve, not conceal and avoid.
