About This Course:
The WannaCry ransomware worm is reportedly the biggest cyber attack in history. Before a researcher inadvertently shut the attack down in mid-May, it was estimated that WannaCry had affected around 230,000 data systems across 150 countries and data owners couldn’t fix it unless they paid the cyber extortionists behind the worm to unlock the data.

These types of attacks are on the rise, says the FBI, and every employer needs to be on guard. Organizations that rarely or never go “offline” with their networks, such as medical providers, police departments, and shipping services (including FedEx, whose data was “kidnapped” by the WannaCry ransomware, may be particularly vulnerable.

Join us for a timely webinar on understanding what ransomware attacks are, how they happen, and how to mitigate the risk of attacks on your workplace and what to do in the event your company’s data is held hostage. Attorney Dan Nelson, a certified ethical hacker and the co-chair of Armstrong Teasdale’s Privacy and Data Security Practice, will teach you how to triage the situation and minimize your legal risks.

You’ll learn:
  • Who should be on your “counter-ransomware and malware” team (and, yes, you should have one)
  • How to tell whether your company’s current cybersecurity policies and procedures put the company’s data at a really high or more moderate risk of ransomware infiltration
  • Key steps every HR and IT professional should be communicating to the workforce right now about email authentication, software updates, web browser protections, and more
  • Why it’s important to be vigilant about the URLs contained in emails and on websites
  • What employees should not do it they’re hacked
  • Off-network backup essentials to follow
  • What to include in your incident response plan so you can mobilize quickly to minimize further damage in the event of a ransomware attack
  • How to tell who you might need to notify in the event of a ransomware attack
