About This Course:
In the weeks since the shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas, many employers are continuing to ask themselves how they would respond to such an event in their workplace. The frequency of such active shooter events has increased in recent years, with workplace homicide being the 4th most common cause of workplace casualties in the US, and both employers and employees can no longer believe that it will never happen to them.

In addition, employers need to know that general liability insurance policies may not explicitly include nor exclude active shooter incidents and additional coverage or policies need to be considered. Another concern for businesses is the possibility of being cited by OSHA for exposing workers to potential workplace violence hazards — a possible citation under OSHA’s General Duty Clause.

The only way to prepare for such an incident is to be trained to respond to an active assailant in ways that can minimize risk of injury and death. Proper training and workplace violence prevention preparation can be the defining factor during an active shooter incident, and is the most effective way to protect lives when shots ring out.

Join us when Kevlon Kirkpatrick and Audra Rigby of Certified Crime Prevention Consultants will share with attendees their lessons learned from the recent Las Vegas shooting, strategies that can save lives, the cost of active shooter incidents, and assessments that can be used to deter the opportunity for an active shooter and other crimes on their property.

You’ll learn:
  • Overview of recent active shooter events in the United States, including the Las Vegas incident
  • General traits and characteristics of active shooters
  • Workplace violence prevention strategies that save lives
  • The realities of liability exposure and insurance
  • Overview of OSHA Directive #CPL 02-01-058
