Internal Investigations Sneak Peeks

Sneak Peeks: Interactive Exercises:

Below is a sampling of just some of the interactive exercises you'll work on for your Internal Investigations Certificate Program course.

Sneak Peek 1:

"Hi, this is Diana from the Miami Call Center. I need to talk with you about a potential FMLA abuse case. Here's the situation: One of my Team Leaders just came into my office about one of his call center sales reps calling in sick again and stating that her absence needs to be coded Intermittent FMLA. This is the third time this month she's done this, and what's interesting about this are the days she calls in sick. I looked at the FMLA Leave Calendar we have in the time and attendance system, and it appears there is a pattern of taking Fridays off in conjunction with her regular off days: Saturday and Sunday.

I would really like you to investigate this, because I've also heard some gossip that this person runs some kind of catering and event planning business on the side. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but it does seem rather suspicious that the days she takes off are on Fridays. When do you think you can start looking into this?"

Sneak Peek 2:

You start work on Monday morning, and the first thing you see is the following employee complaint:
I want to file a formal complaint against my supervisor. The amount of pressure he puts on me to "produce" is about to cause me to have a nervous breakdown. I didn't even get a raise recently when we got our reviews; yet all my other co-workers got raises.

When I talked to him about it, he told me that my performance didn't warrant a raise, and that if I don't improve my performance I'm going to go on an action plan. But the goals he's set for us to achieve are impossible! When I told him that the goals were impossible, he told me that it's "too bad" that I feel that way, because the goals are the goals. I then asked him what I was supposed to do to accomplish these unrealistic goals. He told me that if we became much better 'friends' that it would help. I know what he meant by that...he meant that if I slept with him, he might take the pressure off me. Well, I was going to go talk to his boss, but I know they're best buddies. I figured that wasn't going to work, so I am calling this Hotline. I think he needs to be fired for sexual harassment and for creating a hostile work environment!
