Rules For ADA Reasonable Accommodation Requests
3/17/2026
A Reasonable Accommodation request is a change or adjustment to a job or work environment that enables a qualified person with a disability to:
- Perform essential job functions
- Enjoy equal employment opportunities
- Participate in the job application process
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (
ADA), employers are required to provide reasonable accommodations to qualified employees with disabilities - unless doing so would cause undue hardship. The process is structured but flexible, and HR professionals must follow it carefully to comply with the law and support employee needs. Note: This is an excerpt from our
ADA Training & Certification Program.
